 YOUR FIRST VISIT

WHAT TO EXPECT

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE

Come prepared for the first appointment by wearing a mask that fully covers your nose and mouth, as well as loose, comfortable clothing that can be easily moved or adjusted for treatment. I do have masks, gowns, shorts, and cover sheets available if necessary.

If you’re experiencing cold or flu-like symptoms, give me a call and I will reschedule your visit without a late cancellation fee.

Also, avoid caffeine or alcohol, and refrain from intense exercise before and after your appointment.

Finally, be sure to eat a small meal or snack and drink sufficient water before your appointment. Receiving acupuncture treatment on an empty stomach or while insufficiently hydrated can cause light-headedness or fainting.

WHEN YOU ARRIVE

A New Client Appointment  involves a comprehensive discussion about your main complaints and treatment goals. I will listen to your history, ask questions, look at your tongue, and feel your pulse.

This interview, along with your completion of a comprehensive questionnaire prior to your visit, will help me understand the cause and progression of your pattern of disharmony within the Traditional Chinese Medicine system.

TREATMENT PLAN

Based on your unique health needs and goals, I will develop a personalized treatment plan. Most clients will require a course of treatment.

Acupuncture is most effective when treatment is received regularly over a period of time. Additionally, transformation toward better health and wellbeing takes time, and sustainable lifestyle behaviors require consistent practice and regular reinforcement.

Regular treatment can result in the reduction of symptoms, the improvement of conditions, an enhanced sense of wellbeing, increased energy and vitality, greater enjoyment of life, greater confidence, better sleep, a more balanced appetite, and a sense of ease with oneself.

FIRST TREATMENT

The initial appointment will typically include an acupuncture treatment with the insertion of needles in the body. The needles may be left in place anywhere between 20 to 40 minutes, during which time you’ll rest and relax; you may even fall asleep. There is nothing better than an AcuNap!

The number of needles used can range from two to sixteen, depending on the focus of treatment. You might feel a slight pinch, tingling or aching sensation when the needle is inserted, which usually goes away after a few seconds. Generally, an enhanced sense of wellbeing and relaxation follows treatment.

Other treatment therapies such as moxibustion, cupping, or ear acupuncture may be used if appropriate.

TREATMENT FEES

In North Carolina, acupuncturists are not usually covered under medical insurance plans. My office does not bill insurance companies or file insurance claims.
