Stimulate the body's innate healing response to help restore wellbeing

ACUPUNCTURE

Originating in China over 2,500 years ago, acupuncture is now practiced widely throughout the world. Acupuncture involves the insertion of fine needles into specific points on the body, located along channel pathways, that circulate the vital energy – called qi. When the vital energy is strong and free flowing, health, vitality and wellbeing will follow. When there is deficiency or blockage, pain and dysregulation arise, sometimes leading to illness. Acupuncture treatment aims to restore and regulate the free flow of vital energy in order to stimulate the body’s innate healing response and help restore its natural balance, relieving pain and symptoms of disease. Regular acupuncture treatment can help address many common conditions, optimize the immune system to heal and resist illness, and help foster a sense of calm, vitality, and resilience.

EAR ACUPUNCTURE

Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture is a treatment method that restores regulation of the body, mind, and emotions by stimulating points on the ear with needles, seeds, or magnets. It is based on the understanding that our ears are a microsystem of the body, and therefore stimulation of points on the ear can treat different areas of the body. Ear acupuncture treatment helps regulate the central nervous system and is effective for balancing stress related conditions, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), trauma, and supporting the treatment of substance addictions.

MOXIBUSTION

Moxibustion, or moxa treatment, complements and reinforces acupuncture treatment by warming and tonifying the vital energy. Moxa has been demonstrated to have positive effects on blood circulation and the immune system. Moxa involves smoldering the mugwort herb at or near acupuncture points and along the channel pathways. When moxa is smoldered, it releases tannins and volatile oils, warms and stimulates the points and channels, and provides a therapeutic effect to the individual.

CUPPING

Cupping therapy is effective for treating muscle aches, assisting the recovery of muscle strain and fatigue, and is often used by athletes to aid recovery from intensive training. Cupping involves placing cups on the body with suction. The suction gently lifts the underlying tissue, increasing blood and lymph circulation to the area and promoting healing. The sensation is similar to a deep tissue massage.

 NUTRITION  & HERBAL THERAPY

We are what we eat, and food is powerful medicine.

NUTRITION

A whole-foods, plant-strong, nutrient-dense diet is one of the most powerful ways to improve health and prevent illness. Plants are rich in phytochemicals, providing the body with an array of micronutrients to nourish life and increase vitality. Recently, medical research has identified chronic inflammation as the root cause of many illnesses. Nutrition and herbal therapy work synergistically with acupuncture treatment to reduce inflammation by enhancing circulation, improving our ability to adapt to stress, and boosting the functioning of the immune system to resist illness. Many chronic illnesses improve simply by making dietary changes.

Traditional Chinese Medicine offers guidance on how best to eat to support each person’s unique constitution. It’s not a one size fits all approach, but an individualized plan based on your unique constitution and condition. I’ll work with you to determine if your constitution is running hot or cold, and if you are inflamed and congested or deficient and depleted. I’ll make recommendations based on whether you need cleansing, nourishing, or a combination.  I’ll suggest which foods to emphasize and which to reduce based on my understanding of food energetics and your constitution, as well as how you’re currently eating. I’ll also recommend teas and herbs, and offer guidance on how, when, and where to eat, all with the aim of restoring balance and harmony.

Adopting a whole foods, plant strong diet, tailored to your unique constitution helps reduce inflammation and support the body’s innate healing response.  I encourage  balance, moderation, the enjoyment of food preparation with locally grown, seasonal produce and the pleasure of sharing meals.  Sometimes, it is necessary to fill in nutritional gaps with herbal and nutritional supplements and I’ll make suggestions when necessary. I can provide nutrition guidance in person or remotely by telehealth.

Patented Chinese Herbal Formulas have been used for thousands of years and can help support the body to heal and address many common conditions. Modern scientific research is validating the healing properties of many herbs and Traditional Chinese Herbal Formulas.
